I see a primary goal of psychotherapy as providing the individual with a sense of empowerment: the belief that you are able to control your own thoughts and actions and through that interact more effectively in social, personal, and occupational arenas. Therapy begins with establishing a supportive therapeutic relationship, within which one feels accepted and validated.
My primary orientation is cognitive-behavioral. The basis premise of cognitive-behavior therapy is that emotions are formed or mediated by thoughts and beliefs one has about the events that one experiences. These thoughts and beliefs can be modified if they result in unhealthy emotions or behaviors.
The specific methods that I use with clients vary depending on the nature of the presenting issue and the needs of the client. I use specific techniques in more specialized areas, such as chronic pain management, panic and anxiety disorders, marital therapy, and attention deficit disorder treatment.
My specialties include chronic pain management, evaluation and treatment of attention deficit disorder in children and adults, anxiety disorders, depression, marital and relationship issues, smoking cessation and weight loss.
I see adults, adolescents, and children for evaluation and treatment. I am a member of the American Psychological Association and the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis.
I worked at Covenant Behavioral Health for nine years before entering private practice in 2000.
